LATEST NEWS (last updated May 31, 2009):

What I do for money. . . .

I work here:
CBS Interactive
(Project Manager for the Portland, Oregon, office of a top Internet media company.)

Disclaimer: Not a single byte of content on this personal home page website is endorsed or approved by my employer.  It's all about me, and that's all it is.  I only mention my employer because it defines how I spend most of my waking hours during the week, along with some evenings and weekends.

What I do for writing. . . .

Sometimes I am able to post some photos or narrative about my travels or experiences.  I post to LiveJournal.

What I do to make some spare cash and get rid of stuff. . . .

I'm still passively (i.e., whatever's left in my inventory on Half.com - I rarely add new items) selling portions of my music collection (CDs, LPs, 7" singles, etc.) and other surplus personal possessions, primarily on eBay and Half.com.  Half.com is only available to USA/Canada consumers, but if you are not in North America and see something you like there, let me know and I can transfer it to eBay with a "Buy It Now" price comparable to what it's selling for on Half.com.

Where I go to do some of the things I do. . . .

All the information you need to keep up with me.

I live in this neighborhood:

And I'm a scenic one-mile walk away from this neighborhood:

This is a good, even-tempered community of audiophiles:
Steve Hoffman Forums

What I've been listening to lately. . . .

Music by way more artists than I can list, but here are a couple of lists of my favorite albums to give you an idea of my tastes:
My Top 414 favorite albums of all time
My Top 10 favorite albums of 2008

What I've been watching lately. . . .

I got rid of my satellite subscription (DISHNetwork) in 2006, and I really haven't missed it. I got an HDTV receiver and an antenna to pick up over-the-air digital broadcasts of the local channels, and (even though reception is unreliable) that's really all I need for the occasional sporting event that's not on ESPN, and the local news. When I used to watch subscription TV, these were a couple of my favorites that I still kinda miss now:
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
The Colbert Report

What I've been thinking about lately. . . .

My brother Jason Coleman Carrington died on March 22, 2008, at the age of 34 years old.  He left behind a wife, Elizabeth, and a daughter, Madeleine, in Ireland.  That singular tragic event has colored my view of everything in life and in (and out of) this world, and has forever altered who I am, and who I will ever be.

Neighbor's Cat and a T.S. Eliot quote

(NOTE: I got this fortune cookie below back in July of 2003, and its simple message helped me keep my chin up through a lot of rough times since then.  I know it's silly to feel a sense of devotion for a fortune cookie, but damnit I am genuinely thankful that I got this thing when I did!)

FONTS: This site looks coolest with Microsoft's "trebuchet" font, which apparently is only available if you have installed Microsoft's Internet Explorer. I've set this page up to default back to "helvetica" or "arial" if you don't have "trebuchet," but let me know if the site looks really bizarre in your browser.
SOFTWARE: This site was created in Mozilla SeaMonkey Composer.  Over many revisions, the HTML code has gotten really messy behind the scenes because Composer doesn't handle simple copy-paste functions very well.  I need to dig in to it and clean up the code.  Once it's cleaned up, I'll probably either write the code manually in Notepad, or find a new/better HTML Editor that doesn't have a steep learning curve or cost hundreds of dollars.
