a remix of "Eastern Standard Tribe" | ||
Not wanting to design a web page. Nor to add to the insane amount of graphic noise integral to the www. This web page is as simple as I can make it. Listen. This is a remix of a small part of the novel Eastern Standard Tribe by Cory Doctorow. How it was made. 1) Record a page of text with Apple speech. (voice "Vicky") No editing this is just a straight read. 2) Run this audio file through "MetaMix", recording the output again. For this run I used the following MetaMix settings, (3 sec. chunks, 3 layers, Form = preset "Joy Ride"). What is going on. MetaMix cuts any audio file into chunks of a set duration then plays these chunks back in a preset algorithmic way. To make smoother transitions from one chunk to the next, MetaMix actually overlaps up to six chunks at a time. As a new chunks gradually fades in, an older chunk gradually fades out. This not only makes the sound more connected, but it can also create interesting composite textures. In this mix the order that the chunks are played back is not random, but follow a pattern. This pattern begins, 1, 1, 0, 1, 0, 1, 1, 2, 0, 2, 2, 4, 1, 1, 1, 2, 3, 7, 4, 5, 1, 8, 5, 7, 6, 11, 4, 1, 4, 13, 8, 11, 5, 4, 4, 16, 5, 1, 2, 5, 8, 19, 12, 17, 3, 26, 18, 28, 17, 23, 0, 23, 12, 13, 5, 2, 4, 14, 14, 28, 1, 25, 18, 29, 22, 37, 10, 7, 13, 32, 15, 13, 14... Where each number above corresponds to the order of the 3 second chunk in the original file. Notes: Remix by permision of author: Cory Doctorow. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ corlin3@dslnorthwest.net
